Turbo-Prop Engine Test Systems (METS)

Mobile Engine Test System (TRI-METS)

As part of the total integrated logistics support for the Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules/AP3-3C Orion aircraft, we have designed, developed and supplied advanced open air Mobile Engine Test Systems (METS) which are capable of full performance testing of the following platforms:-

  • Hercules C-130H Allison T56-A15/A15LFE power plants installed within a Quick Engine Change Unit and with a Hamilton-Standard 54H60-91 propeller installed.

  • Allison T56/ 501 bare power plant and with a Hamilton-Standard 54H60-91 propeller installed.

  • Hercules C-130J AE2100D3 power plant installed within a Quick Engine Change Unit and with a Dowty Aerospace R391 six bladed composite propeller installed.

  • Adapted to support the Lockheed Martin P3 Orion Allison T56-A14 power plant installed within a Quick Engine Change Unit and a Hamilton-Standard 54H60-77 propeller installed.

A METS Facility comprises of the following main modules:-

  • QECU Test Trailer & Mounting Frame

  • Acoustic Control Cabin

  • QECU Air Start System

  • QECU Fuel System

  • Slave Oil System for bare engine testing

Our unique METS test trailer is the only facility in the world with the QECU supported at the identical centre-line height to the aircraft wing (eliminating FOD and induced propeller tip strain) and hydraulic front and rear access scissor lift platforms (reducing aerodynamic backwash blockage and induced propeller strain).
